'Perfection consists not in doing extraordinary things, but in doing ordinary things extraordinarily well'. Angelique Arnauld
Managers can possibly be born (not many!) but they can be given the skills to manage effectively. How often is someone jettisoned into management without the necessary training and experience? A square peg…… From managing people, teams, communicating, decision making, motivating, to time management, negotiation, leadership and planning – all are vital skills. It cannot be assumed that everyone who is a manager possesses them.
We have been providing successful courses for companies, charities, organisations and schools for over 20 years. Depending on the needs, in consultation with the decision makers, our HR trainers plan and write the programme for your company or organisation.
With our qualified and highly experienced team of trainers and outdoor tutors we can take you out of your normal environment, away from laptops, iPhones, the pressure and stress of a busy office, and deliver creative and innovative programmes where the outcomes are measurable, effective and are linked into the overall objectives of your organisation’s aim and business plan.
How much is remembered by trainees in a room with constant power point presentations? However Outdoor training is a perfect tool (as Confucius said!) and enables us all to get to the core of the trainees’ needs in a remarkably short time. Learning is reinforced by ‘doing’ and reviewing, with workshops included to increase understanding.
Able to seat 160 people we can also provide breakout rooms including the vaulted Wine Cellar. This in itself is a useful conference room for smaller numbers (maximum of 30 people).
We also run corporate days such as one we have done for a number of years – the ICE (Institute of Chartered Engineers) Challenge. Ten or more teams of engineers and graduates attempt a circuit of tasks and outdoor pursuits, which are challenging, fun and exciting and highly competitive! Another example of our work is with graduate trainees of a multi national company – a five day course with the aim of understanding how to manage people and a team. This includes a 24 hour challenge which is tough, exciting, fun but will never be forgotten!
Additionally the Longhouse provides the perfect location for any type of business conference or learning day
Duration: 1 – 5 days
Between: All year
Capacity: Up to 160 seated in Longhouse with additional breakout rooms

Carefully planned menus with locally sourced produce and our own organic vegetables are served in the environmentally built, award winning Longhouse. Mill on the Brue was runner up in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards.
As part of the hire (per person) we will provide unlimited fair trade coffee and tea throughout the day. You will be able to choose from either a cooked lunch or a buffet. The majority of the vegetables will have been picked only hours before in our organic garden. The meat is from a locally sourced butcher or our own home grown lambs and pigs. There will always be a vegetarian option and we are able to cater for other dietary requirements if informed in advance.
Courses or corporate events are run for a day or residential. As well as Mill on the Brue accommodation we also have the use of a 32 bed self contained, newly refurbished and luxurious accommodation 5 minutes walk from the Centre. This can be used for smaller groups with sole use.
There is a train station at Bruton or Castle Cary four miles away, there are large car parks at the Centre or we have bike racks if you are travelling environmentally.
