Qualifications

 Essential:

One or more of the following

  • SPA/ RCI Award; ERCA / IRATA; UKCC British Canoeing Level 2 (Core) Coach Award; ML / WGL Award or equivalent – assessed plus valid 16hr First Aid

Desirable:

  • Archery GB; Bushcraft Level 2; MIA/MIC; BCU Coach/Assessor

Our happy, fun and experienced team are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, professional and dynamic person to lead and inspire our instructor team to deliver high quality experiential learning to a range of groups.

We need someone with proven experience who can take on a busy programme and work with the wider team to further develop the potential of the centre.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates a wide knowledge, experience and love of the outdoors, both professionally and individually
  • Efficient and effective working practice, proactive, organised, trustworthy, reliable, responsible, have a sense and humour and be passionate about delivering their knowledge of the outdoors to others, especially children
  • IT literate and not fazed by spreadsheets and rotas
  • A ‘people’ person, an excellent communicator, and demonstrate significant experience of managing teams
  • Willing to learn more about our environmental practices and help us to motivate our staff and customers to practice what we preach
  • An active member of our management team
  • Expect to live within reasonable distance of the centre for top cover duties (shared with the senior management team)
  • Valid driving license

Location

Mill on the Brue is  about two hours drive from Dartmoor, South Wales, great climbing on the south coast; and has a train station with links to Bath, Bristol, Weymouth and London. Bruton is a small town with pubs, restaurants, art galleries, three schools and lots of social activities in the town and nearby. There are a number of bigger towns within easy drive and lots of great walking.

We are an innovative family run Outdoor Activity Centre in Somerset with a strong environmental ethos. Established in 1982, the Centre provides residential and day courses for schools, youth and student groups, and summer camps for unaccompanied children, with a focus on experiential education. We also host events and functions throughout the year.

 

 

Kitchen Assistant – Seasonal

We require someone to join our friendly and talented Catering team

Beginning of February until late November 2024

20 – 30 hours/week (tbc) –  with some weekend working required especially during summer camps in July and August

Qualifications are not necessarily important – an ability to follow recipes to prepare nutritious, delicious dishes using seasonal and local produce would be useful

High standards of cleanliness and delivering excellent customer service are essential skills

Required to work shifts (morning shifts start at 7.00am, and evening shifts finish at about 8.00pm) and occasional weekends on rota.

Ability to work on a multi-level site with stairs essential

To start as soon as possible, with contract to end of November and opportunity to return in the following year

Salary: £11 per hour (to be reviewed in April)

Looking to be part of a fun and enthusiastic team and work in a beautiful location? Want to develop your instructing and facilitation skills?

Like working with children, inspiring them to try new things and to challenge themselves?

We are looking for outstanding, enthusiastic, energetic and inspiring Instructors for our 2024 season.

Our Instructors work with the same group for the whole of their visit, so there is plenty of opportunity to build relationships with the children and to see them evolve throughout their stay. We also regularly work with adult groups and during the summer have six weeks of Summer Camps for unaccompanied children who are here to have fun. These groups provide a refreshing change of pace during the season.

We want you to have a great experience with us and develop in your role therefore regular training opportunities are available and also support in gaining NGB awards. In house training/a signing off process is provided for the Instructor role.

Ideally you will have (though qualifications are not essential):

UKCC/BCU Paddlesport Instructor/Level 1 award + A current first aid certificate + Some previous experience of instructing, teaching or coaching

Bushcraft, high ropes experience/qualifications or Archery GB would also be desirable

Mill on the Brue is in beautiful rural Somerset, close to Mendip. Within 2 hours of rivers, coast, crags and moor.

Mainline train station links to Bath, Bristol, Weymouth and London.

Local facilities and social opportunities all within walking distance.
