We are an educational and environmental organisation which has been inspiring and educating all our customers since 1982.  We are passionate in making sure that each customer who comes and experiences Mill on the Brue leaves happy and fulfilled.

 

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and a highly organised individual in a supporting stand-alone HR role to the Directors.  To be successful in this role, you must have the HR knowledge and experience to be able to work independently.  Excellent organisation, communication and IT skills, accuracy and attention to detail are essential.  The nature of this role requires a tactful and confidential approach.

The position: HR Administrator and Part time PA to the Director

Salary: £27,000 pro rata

Hours: 20 – 24 hours per week. There is flexibility for the right person.

Contract: Permanent to start as soon as possible

Senior Activity Instructor – PERMANENT

Our happy, fun and experienced team are looking for two inspiring, energetic and credible additional Senior Instructors to help train, develop and supervise our Instructor team and to deliver high quality experiential learning to a range of groups.

As well as instructing, our Senior Instructors are involved in planning, training and overseeing the delivery of both residential and day visit groups to ensure quality and consistency. It’s a busy and varied job with plenty of opportunity for developing management skills.

The successful individual will be able to demonstrate high standards of communication, organisation, good humour, attention to detail, professionalism, self-motivation and be a team role model.

We are looking for someone who understands and can apply experiential learning principles, together with experience of working with primary school groups. Also having experience of working with older teenagers and adults would be great.

Location

Mill on the Brue is  about two hours drive from Dartmoor, South Wales, great climbing on the south coast; and has a train station with links to Bath, Bristol, Weymouth and London.

We are an innovative family run Outdoor Activity Centre in Somerset with a strong environmental ethos. Established in 1982, the Centre provides residential and day courses for schools, youth and student groups, and summer camps for unaccompanied children, with a focus on experiential education. We also host events and functions throughout the year.

Salary: – £ 28,462.72 + 5% pension contribution, regular training opportunities and support in gaining NGB awards

Requirements

You need to be enthusiastic and passionate about the outdoors and the environment, understand experiential learning and have a minimum of 12 months experience in a similar role

PSI or higher (we use canoes) and valid First Aid certificate (minimum 16 hours) – essential

In addition, you must hold at least one of the following qualifications:

SPA/ RCI Award, UKCC British Canoeing Level 2 (Core) Coach Award, ML / WGL Award or equivalent, ERCA / IRATA

A driving licence would be desirable

Outdoor Activity Instructors – SEASONAL

Looking to be part of a fun and enthusiastic team and work in a beautiful location? Want to develop your instructing and facilitation skills?

Like working with children, inspiring them to try new things and to challenge themselves?

We are looking for outstanding, enthusiastic, energetic and inspiring Instructors for our 2024/25 season.

Our Instructors work with the same group for the whole of their visit, so there is plenty of opportunity to build relationships with the children and to see them evolve throughout their stay. We also regularly work with adult groups and during the summer have six weeks of Summer Camps for unaccompanied children who are here to have fun. These groups provide a refreshing change of pace during the season.

We want you to have a great experience with us and develop in your role therefore regular training opportunities are available and also support in gaining NGB awards. In house training/a signing off process is provided for the Instructor role.

Ideally you will have (though qualifications are not essential):

UKCC/BCU Paddlesport Instructor/Level 1 award + A current first aid certificate + Some previous experience of instructing, teaching or coaching

Bushcraft, high ropes experience/qualifications or Archery GB would also be desirable

Mill on the Brue is in beautiful rural Somerset, close to Mendip. Within 2 hours of rivers, coast, crags and moor.

Mainline train station links to Bath, Bristol, Weymouth and London.

Local facilities and social opportunities all within walking distance.

Subsidised meals and on-site accommodation are available.

Seasonal – Full Time  £15,969 – £22,215 per annum pro rata – in line with NMW + qualifications financial incentive package
