1) Training & Personnel management position

Mill on the Brue is an innovative family run Outdoor Activity Centre in Somerset with a strong environmental ethos. Established in 1982, the Centre provides residential and day courses with an emphasis on experiential learning.

We are looking for an experienced and energetic person to lead on all aspects of personnel and staff training and to be responsible for overall health and safety.

Requirements

  • Relevant professional qualifications or demonstrable experience of working within Human Resources
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to deliver a high standard of training
  • Demonstrable ability to motivate and act as a role model for other staff
  • Ability to build strong working relationships
  • IT skills – good understanding of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work flexible shift patterns including occasional weekends
  • ‘Can do’ attitude to problem solving
  • Driver with valid, current driving license (desirable)

2) Senior Instructor

The coming year looks to be an exceptional one so we are looking for an additional Senior Instructor to train, develop and supervise our Instructor team.

Mill on the Brue is an innovative family run Outdoor Activity Centre in Somerset with a strong environmental ethos. Established in 1982, the Centre provides residential and day courses with an emphasis on experiential learning.

As well as instructing, our Senior Instructors are involved in planning, training and overseeing the delivery of both residential and day visit groups to ensure quality and consistency. The successful individual will be able to demonstrate high standards of communication, organisation, attention to detail, professionalism and self-motivation, and be a team role model.

Mill on the Brue will reward you for your loyalty and hard work with a competitive salary, regular training opportunities and support in gaining NGB awards. Subsidised off-site accommodation is available if required.

Requirements

You need to be enthusiastic and passionate about the outdoors and the environment, understand experiential learning and have a minimum of 12 months experience in a similar role. You must also hold the following qualifications:

  • SPA/ RCI Award
  • UKCC British Canoeing Level 1 Coach Award
  • Valid First Aid certificate (minimum 16 hours)

You will also hold at least one of the following:

  • ML / WGL Award or equivalent
  • ERCA / IRATA
  • Valid Driving Licence

3) 2020 Instructors

We are looking for additional Instructors for the 2020 season.

We want you to get satisfaction and develop in your role, so you will work with the same group throughout their stay, building relationships and delivering a wide range of activities each week.

We will reward you for your loyalty and hard work with regular training opportunities and support in gaining NGB awards.

Ideally you will have some previous instructional, teaching or coaching experience and British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor.

  • Training will be provided for the role.
  • Training Incentive Scheme in operation for additional training courses

4) WWOOF’s (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms)

WWOOF is a world wide exchange network where bed, board and practical experience are given in return for help on organic farms. WWOOF provides excellent opportunities for organic training, changing to a rural life, cultural exchange and being part of the organic movement. As part of our membership with WWOOF, we are offering WWOOF posts here at Mill on the Brue. In exchange for your help in working in our vegetable and flower gardens, we provide you with comfortable and warm accommodation with delicious meals, full board and a variety of practical experiences. Stays of varied length are possible.

You can experience cultural exchange, eco-friendly gardening and being part of our environmental movement as well as social interaction with other young members of staff who also live on-site. If you are interested in a fun and rewarding time please get in touch for more details.

Dates available now until the end of November. You do have to be WWOOF member to volunteer.
