Group Leader – 8th July to 23rd August 2024

Looking for a fun summer job with young people?

Do you like working outdoors? Do you enjoy sport and outdoor activities? Do you like children? Then we have the perfect job for you.

You’ll be working in a team of like minded people and you’ll make friends for life.

Mill on the Brue started back in 1982 with the ethos of inspiring children to love the outdoors whilst providing fun challenges.  We still have at the heart of the programme the aim of ensuring the children have fun away from home whilst having a digital detox in an environmental setting.

We are looking for Group Leaders for seven weeks in July and August to assist with our summer camps 8th July – 12th July is a paid training week, 14th July – 23rd August are the summer camps.

If you have the following qualifications this will assist your application moving forward.

  • current first aid certificate
  • a pool lifeguard qualification.

Must be able to cope with a multi-level site and work outdoors in all weathers smiling….

Accommodation available.

Must be over 18 years of age.

Wage: National minimum wage based on your age, 40 hours per week.

Kitchen Assistant – Seasonal

We require someone to join our friendly and talented Catering team

Qualifications are not essential – an ability to follow recipes to prepare nutritious, delicious dishes using seasonal and local produce would be useful

High standards of cleanliness and delivering excellent customer service are essential skills

Required to work shifts (morning shifts start at 7:00am and evening shifts finish at about 8:00pm) and occasional weekends on rota

Ability to work on a multi-level site with stairs is important

Beginning in April until late November 2024 and opportunity to return in the following year

Flexible as required –  with some weekend working required especially during summer camps in July and August

Salary: £11.44 per hour

Chef Manager – Permanent position

If work-life balance is important to you, this position may be perfect.

Chef Manager required to join a friendly, enthusiastic and capable team catering for mainly primary age children.

Experience of and ability to produce nutritious and delicious locally sourced, seasonal meals essential.

  • Good work – life balance
  • Mostly Monday – Friday (very occasional weekends, mostly 6 weeks during the summer)
  • Early finish most Fridays
  • Centre closed between Christmas and New Year
  • Shifts 7.00am – 3.00pm or 12.30pm – 8.30pm
  • Meals on shift

Must like children

Salary: £32,000 – £38,000 depending on experience + 5% pension contribution

Outdoor Instructors – SEASONAL

Looking to be part of a fun and enthusiastic team and work in a beautiful location? Want to develop your instructing and facilitation skills?

Like working with children, inspiring them to try new things and to challenge themselves?

We are looking for outstanding, enthusiastic, energetic and inspiring Instructors for our 2024 season.

Our Instructors work with the same group for the whole of their visit, so there is plenty of opportunity to build relationships with the children and to see them evolve throughout their stay. We also regularly work with adult groups and during the summer have six weeks of Summer Camps for unaccompanied children who are here to have fun. These groups provide a refreshing change of pace during the season.

We want you to have a great experience with us and develop in your role therefore regular training opportunities are available and also support in gaining NGB awards. In house training/a signing off process is provided for the Instructor role.

Ideally you will have (though qualifications are not essential):

UKCC/BCU Paddlesport Instructor/Level 1 award + A current first aid certificate + Some previous experience of instructing, teaching or coaching

Bushcraft, high ropes experience/qualifications or Archery GB would also be desirable

Mill on the Brue is in beautiful rural Somerset, close to Mendip. Within 2 hours of rivers, coast, crags and moor.

Mainline train station links to Bath, Bristol, Weymouth and London.

Local facilities and social opportunities all within walking distance.

Subsidised meals and on-site accommodation are available.

Seasonal – Full Time  £15,969 – £22,215 per annum pro rata – in line with NMW + qualifications financial incentive package
