Somerset centre attracts children from across the world

Children from across the globe will come to Somerset this Summer to visit the not-for-profit outdoor activity centre Mill on the Brue.
The family-run centre in Bruton, has been running Summer camps for over 30 years, and has always attracted some children from Europe, but this year there are children from as far afield as Mexico, Moscow, Korea, China and Qatar.
“I’m delighted that we’re attracting more children from overseas,” says Tricia Rawlingson Plant, who set up Mill on the Brue in 1982. “Not only do they enjoy the freedom that Mill on the Brue offers, but it’s also a great opportunity for the British children to meet children from different places.
“Together they learn so much through fun and adventure. We see real changes in children over the period of a few days, their confidence grows and they develop deep friendships that last a lifetime.”
Somerset children have no excuse for boredom either. As well as the weekly residential camps for eight to 15-year-olds, there are day camps for seven – 14-year-olds, and half-days for five and six-year-olds – known as Mini Mobsters.
Summer Day Camps run from July 15 – August 23, Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm, with Tuesdays and Fridays themed Commando and Pirate days. The Mini Mobsters adventure mornings take place on July 24, August 14 and August 21.
Everything at Mill on the Brue, including the land, the food and the buildings, is built around strong environmental principles and this has been recognised by numerous awards over the years.
“Caring for the environment has been a fundamental part of what we do from the very beginning, and it’s something that every child who comes here learns about and appreciates,” said Tricia.
