Richard Doudney retires after 16 years
Richard managed the whole 20 acres with his assistant “Little Tony Sims’ back in 1994. They continued to plant even more trees after lengthy discussion with Tony and Tricia.
In 1996 Richard and JJ (cousin of Matt) planted the vineyard. Richard’s huge amount of experience in Sri Lanka managing a tea plantation equipped him for a smooth transition to vines with fantastic results. We had to of course wait five years for the first bottle! The other love (apart from Richards’ wife Sally – office manager) is roses. He tended all the roses especially on the drive wall and the rose bed on the front lawn. The latter were chosen because they are the same colour as Tricia’s wedding bouquet.
We wish Richard a peaceful retirement and many thanks for his many years of hard work and continual optimism.
